9 Ways Cure Your Winter Blues with Hygge

Sometimes life gets tough. The demands of juggling work and family can get stressful, especially when winter is approaching and the days are getting shorter and the weather colder. Hygge is a great way to beat the winter blues and to enjoy life again even if it is below zero.

Here is a list of 9 ways to beat the winter blues with hygge.

Binge On Netflix Series

You may not think this is participating in hygge but believe me it is. Do it by yourself, with your partner or with friends. Stock up on your favorite snacks, get the cosiest blanket you have and snuggle up on the couch or in bed and watch your favorite series. Tip: Light a few candles to get the hygge mood going.

Build A Blanket Fort

You may have done this as a child and remember how much fun it was. Now hygge gives you a reason to have all that fun as an adult. Consider building your blanket fort around a TV or if you have a laptop, position it near a plug socket. Or you could always read a book or play board games under it. If you have kids get them involved. I’m sure they would love it.

Cook A Roast Dinner for Friends Or Family

There’s something about roast dinners that gives off the essence of cosiness and warmth. Invite the people you love over for a nice home cooked meal. Don’t forget to get them to help you as hygge is about sharing experiences.

Start Some DIY Projects

Have you seen some cool DIY projects on Pinterest that you swore you’d do last month. Well now is your time. With winter steadily creeping up on us it is inevitable that there will be a lot more time spent in doors, so there is no better time to start making home made coasters or crocheted scarfs.

Decorate For The Holidays

Decorations instantly make your home cosy. Twinkling lights and Santa ornaments can bring a sense of ease to anyone’s day. Plus, it’s exciting to be reminded that Christmas is just around the corner. If you are looking to have a more hygge holiday season this year, The Art of Hygge: How to Bring Danish Cosiness Into Your Life is the perfect book for inspiration.

Listen To Your Favorite Playlist

Get into some comfy clothes, get the fire going and light some candles. Put on your favorite playlist and just chill out and enjoy the music.

Enjoy A Cup Of Tea Or Coffee Outside

In the morning before you go to work or in the evening when you come home, stick on the kettle or brew up a fresh pot of coffee. Instead of sitting in the kitchen throw on a jumper and sit outside. Listen to the birds sing and watch the world going by.

Start A New Book Series

If you’re fed up watching mindless TV for hours why not start a new book series? You’ll feel a lot less guilty getting stuck into a new book than a new episode of Law and Order. Although, if you want to watch TV for hours that’s okay too. Remember hygge is all about giving yourself what you want.

Get A Colouring Book

You may think colouring books are only for kids but recently people have been practicing mindfulness through coloring. The Cosy Hygge Winter Colouring Book is a perfect one to get started with.
